McCarthy's Corner - Ceebees play 3 games in 5 nights and come away with come from behind win and two hard fought losses
The HGOE CeeBee Stars has a busy week in Avalon East Senior Hockey League action. On Wednesday Nov. 10 at the CBS Arena, the CeeBees spoiled the home opener for the CBS Blues by picking up a 8-5 win. The Stars had a sluggish start to the contest before a couple of spirited tilts by Mark Barrett and Ryon Willaims helped turn the momentum of the game. After falling behind 3-0 at the end of the 1st period, the CeeBees stormed back with 3 goals by Brett Shute, a pair of goals by Jordan Escott and singles by David Hibbs, Ryan Petten, and Ryan Delaney.
On Saturday Nov. 13 at the DCHGCC in Harbour Grace the St. John's Caps skated away with a 6-3 victory over the Stars. Kyle McGrath, fresh off a try out with the Newfoundland Growlers, opened the scoring for the Caps at the 12:13 mark of the first period. Kyle Petten knotted the score at 1 before the end of the first frame. The Caps exploded with 5 goals in the second period with tallies by Ryan Mackenzie, Kyle McGuirk, Andrew Paul, Grant Thompson, and Dylan Brake to seal the win for second place St. John's. Petten, who is third in scoring in the St. John's Junior Hockey League, fired home another goal for the CeeBees while Brett Shute added a single.
On Sunday Nov. 14 the CeeBee Stars headed across the Witless Bay Line to tangle with the undefeated Southern Shore Breakers at the Kenny Williams Arena in Mobile. It was the third game in five nights for the Stars and it may have caught up to them as the Breakers handed them a 7-2 loss. The CeeBees kept it close trailing 4-2 with 6 minutes left to play before the Shore pulled away with 3 late goals.
This coming Saturday Nov. 20 the CeeBees hit the road as they face the Clarenville Caribous at the Eastlink Events Centre. The next CeeBee Stars home game is Saturday Nov. 27 when the Caribous make a visit to the DCHGCC for the first time this season.
